February 25, 2019.   Peace summit to be held in Nyanza to mark a year of handshake. THE Civil Societies and Faith Based Organizations in Nyanza plans to hold a three day Peace Summit in Kisumu in April this year to mark one year Anniversary of the symbolic handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition Chief Raila Odinga. The Nyanza Peace Summit under the theme “Building Bridges: Harnessing the Demographic Dividends for Peace and Cohesion through Youth and Women Socio-Economic Empowerment” will be convened under the auspices of the Amai Wajibu Wangu Forum. In a Press statement to the Newsrooms today, Program Coordinator for the Center for Peace-building and strategic Studies Sam Owaka says this is a multi-sectorial platform for Peace and National Cohesion Advocacy in Kenya that seeks to among other things, sustain the momentum

Sugarcane farmers want Parliament to discuss payment of their arrears.  A NUMBER of sugarcane farmers across the country now want the Members of Parliament to immediately discuss the issue of paying them their arrears amounting to billions of shillings. They say the issue of paying them their arrears by the National Government should be put in the order paper that should be part of what is to be discussed in Parliament but claiming that the issue had never been put as one of the issue of discussions in Parliament. SUGARCANE Farmers across the country now want the Government scrap the regulation of Sugar Industry. Through the National Sugarcane Farmers Task force, the farmers want this to be done through completely deregulating it by deletion of sugarcane from the first schedule of the Crops Act 2013.
