Association wants Uhuru to issue executive order to audit all water Companies

AN Association has appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to issue Executive Orders to the Auditor General instructing the office to carry out audit to all water companies across the country since the advent of devolution after the March 4, 2013 General Elections.

The Kenya Water Workers Association {KEWAWA} claims that there is rampant corruption within the various water service providers across the country hence the need to audit such companies.

Addressing the press in Kisumu today, the Association’s President Charles Chitechi said once President Kenyatta issue such an order, audit should be done and such a report shared with President Kenyatta, the Senate and the National Assembly.

Chitechi also want the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Office of the Director of Prosecution and the Director of Criminal Investigations to join Water Services Regulatory Board{WASREB} for technical audit to all Water Service Providers and make arrests of all the top managers who have abused their offices to perpetuate corruption, adding that KEWAWA should be incorporated in this.

The Association has further recommended that water services be taken back to the National Government or assigns the function to the Nairobi Metropolitan Services{NMS} as WASREB organize for a national dialogue on water matters across the country.

“We recommend that there is need to empower movements of water companies through the Act of Parliament like WASREB, Unions, CBOs and Associations like KEWAWA and the public to demand for transparency and accountability in water sector since they use public funds,” he says

The association suggests that the core management of water companies across the country should never be appointed by the Governors but WASREB where professionalism and their performance track records will be considered.
