The National Funds for the Disabled of Kenya has a mandate of enhancing Social Economic empowerment to Persons with Disability in Kenya.

The National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya (hereafter referred to as the Fund) was registered on 7th July, 1981 after a funds drive which raised Kshs. 20,768,363.15 in aid of persons with disabilities was held on 4th October, 1980 during the Kenya National Year for the Disabled.

The Trustees appointed by the then President Daniel  Arap Moi utilized the funds to purchase its first commercial building in the Central Business District, namely Rehema House, located along Kaunda/Standard street in 1982 at a price of Kshs.25 million.

The Fund was incorporated as a Trusteeship under the Trustees (Perpetual Succession) Act Cap. 164 of the Laws of Kenya on 6th April, 1989.

In the same year, another Harambee was held and the proceeds went towards purchase of a second building in Westlands, namely New Rehema House.

This was in an effort to increase the capital base of the Fund.  In 2013, the Government of Kenya gave NFDK an amount of Kshs.475 million towards purchase of a 3rd property along Ngong Road, namely Rehema Place.

In the year 2020, the Fund purchased its 4th building – Rehema College House along University Way.

The rent collected from these buildings forms the organizations main source of income which is utilized in funding its programmes as well as cover administrative costs. Surpluses are invested as per the policy of the Board of Trustees.
