Lawyer Amondi declares interest in Kisumu County Assembly Speaker’s seat.

A KISUMU Based Lawyer has declared his interest to vie again for the position of Speaker of Kisumu County Assembly.

Advocate Ken Amondi of Amondi and Company Advocates has again shown interest to contest the position of the Kisumu County Assembly Speaker after he did so but missed it by a whisker after narrowly losing to the outgoing speaker Ann Adul in the year 2013.

Speaking to Journalists in his office in Kisumu, Amondi said the main objective of him vying again for the seat so that the County Assembly of Kisumu to be a focal point for enactment of legislation that would drive agenda of the Manifesto of the Current new County Government.

Amondi says he supports the new County Government’s Agenda and will ensure necessary legislation are passed to drive the agenda in its manifesto.

“The core of my agenda will ensure the passage of necessary legislations that will enact among them the Kisumu Development Authority that would act as the engine that would drive the legacy projects that are captured in the manifesto that brings the current County Government into the office,” he says. 

Amondi says he will ensure that the County Assembly put the current County Government is put on toes to form the Kisumu City Management Board which the previous regime under former Governor Jack Ranguma did not put in place.

“If elected the next speaker of the County Assembly of Kisumu, I will ensure that we push the Executive so as to establish the Kisumu City Management Board which we strongly believe that Board will be very instrumental in the implementation of the Kisumu Urban Project which will see Kisumu City rise to the next level as a model for development,” Amondi adds.

He says with the enactment of legislation for the formation of the Kisumu City Management Board by the County Assembly, this will ensure the Kisumu Urban Project is fully completed.

He says he will also ensure the County Assembly of Kisumu also pass legislation that will establish the Village Councils in place as this is the epicenter of devolution.

“The Village Councils are very vital in the implementation of devolution and I will ensure that the County Assembly which has the core responsibility in legislation to pass a legislation establishing the village councils so as to make the participation of the people at the grass root level on development is included,” he adds.

Amondi adds that he will ensure that there will be a sobriety in the management of the County Assembly to avoid a scenario of having constant squabbles as witnessed in the previous Assembly between the Assembly and the Executive wing of the County Government.

He says if elected the next Speaker, he will also ensure that the Assembly plays its oversight and other roles devoid of interference from any quarters.
