We are ready for the reforms, Private guards Union says.

THE Private security Guards across the country now says they are ready for the reforms under the new regulation.

Through the General Secretary of the Kenya National Private Security Workers Union Isaac Andabwa, the Private Security Guards say the reforms contained in the new Private Security Regulations Act 2019 are in order and they fully support.

Speaking in Kisumu during a meeting with the private security guards from various companies on the new reforms, Andabwa said they are currently conducting an awareness campaign across all the counties in the Country.

Andabwa says there has not been regulation on private security hence has lauded the Government’s move to come up with ways of regulating the industry.

“We must thank the Government under President Uhuru Kenyatta who has been the first Government to recognize the private security Guards’ roles. This is a greater move,” he says.

He said they will not give room to those who are coming up petty issues like campaigning against arming private security with the guns, adding that the regulation talks about giving private security guards tools of trade whcich does not necessarily mean giving then guns alone.

“A particular assignment given to the private security workers must be accompanied by a tool of trade and this is what the new regulation talks about and those spreading petty issues about this must stop,” Andabwa said.

He said private security Workers should not be treated like second class citizens simply because of the nature of their work.

He further said those who are out to frustrate the reforms in the private security sector are just wasting their time since they will never succeed in their course.

He appealed to the Interior Cabinet Secretary and the Kenya Private Security Regulation Authority to keep on steering the current reforms in the sector.
