Kisumu’s Railways ward launches BBI signatures collection

Residents of Railways ward in Kisumu City have today participated in the launch of the collection of signatures towards the Building Bridges Initiative that seeks to amend the constitution of Kenya 2010.

Led by the Railways ward Member of the County Assembly Pastor David Arao, the residents said they are out to ensure that many voters within the ward append their signatures needed.

The residents are enthusiastic that the document will be voted yes during the National Referendum on the proposed amendments on the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

Addressing the residents during the launch of the exercise at Nyawita area within the ward, the area Member of County Assembly David Arao urged the residents to come out in large numbers and put their signatures.

Arao says he will ensure the ward leads in the collection of signatures in Kisumu Central Sub-county after the end of the exercise,  adding that there are a number of agents who have volunteered to ensure that the exercise is a success.

“I am really appealing to the residents of the Railways ward to come out in large numbers and append their signatures which is being collected on the issue of the Constitutional amendment Bill 2020 under the Building Bridges Initiative,” Arao says.

Arao says all the residents within the area have a right to participate in the exercise, adding that no one should be left out at all.

He says the Public should not listen to propaganda about the Document, adding its opponents are ready to spew negativity about it.

“We are asking the public to be careful with some propaganda about the document. This is because some people are out to generate propaganda about it,” he adds.

The Railways ward MCA has promised to crisscross the ward while mobilizing the residents to append their signatures, adding that the agents should ensure that only genuine signatures are collected during the exercise.

The residents who attended the event urged the Government to ensure that there are enough copies of the document for them to read and understand it fully.

The exercise comes barely a day after Kisumu Governor Prof Peter Anyang Nyong'o yesterday launched the Kisumu County collection  of Signatures for all the seven sub-counties at Mama Grace Onyango Social Hall in Kisumu City.
