Ksm Journalists Network Chairman dies in a grisly Road accident

 

Kisumu Journalists have been thrown into a state of mourning after their chairperson died in a grisly road accident that occurred in Kisumu this morning.

 

Dickens Wasonga, Chairman of the Kisumu Journalists Network passed on this morning following a road traffic accident that occurred along Kisumu-Kakamega Highway near Mamboleo Junction.

 

Wasonga was elected the chairman of Kisumu Journalist Network on November 23, 2023 and took over from his Predecessor Rushdie Oudia.

 

Until his untimely demise, Wasonga was working with the Star Newspaper where he was based in Kisumu.

 

Cabinet Secretary in charge of ICT and Digital Economy Eliud Owalo who was in Kisumu for a function had to cut it short and joined the Kisumu based Journalists in mourning one of their colleagues and chairperson of the Kisumu Journalists Network.

 

Owalo says Wasonga has passed on at a time he is needed most by his family, Journalists and the community at large.

 

The Kenya Union of Journalists{KUJ} Secretary General Eric Oduor  mourn Kisumu Journalists Network (KJN)  chairman Dickens Wasonga who lost his life in a road accident in Kisumu this morning.

 

Oduor describes  Wasonga AKA Akuba as a prolific writer and a fearless leader, who commanded respect among his peers.

 “This is a great loss to the media, and the gap left following the demise of Mr Wasonga will take years to plug. I am aware Mr Wasonga, who was also a correspondent with The Star newspaper, had great plans for Kisumu journalists,” Oduor says

 

The KUJ Secretary General says Wasonga had a vision for the Kisumu Journalists Network{KJN} and was ready to partner with other leaders and organizations to improve working environment of KJN members.

 

Former Kisumu Journalists Network Chairpersons Dickson Odhiambo and Rushdie Oudia say they have lost a great Journalist and a leader to the Journalism fraternity in Kisumu.

 

Dickens Ochieng Wasonga started his journalism career in early 2000 and was employed by the Standard Media Group as a correspondent based in Bondo.

 

He later moved to Nation Media Group in 2006 and later worked with the African Press before joining Media Max where he worked for The People Newspaper.

 

He again worked with the Nation Media Group briefly and later joined the Radio Africa Group where he wrote stories for The Star Newspaper.
