New Britam Fund sets up children for
financial success
Britam Asset Managers has launched
KidNest, a children's investment account that gives them an early start to a
long-term wealth creation Path.
KidNest builds a nest egg that grows
steadily over time under professional management offering a simple and flexible
way for parents and guardians to kickstart their children’s investment journey,
with contributions starting from KES 1,000, while also helping prepare them for
future life goals.
While many Kenyan families save for
their children's future, fewer begin investing early enough or teaching their
children to harness the power of long-term compounding.
KidNest bridges that gap, by giving
children years of investment growth before they are old enough to make
financial decisions themselves.
Speaking during the official unveiling
in Nairobi, Britam Group Managing Director and CEO Tom Gitogo highlighted that
time is the biggest advantage children have as future investors, since building
a stronger investment culture requires an early wealth conversation.
“The greatest advantage any investor
has is time. Our job is not only to serve today’s investor, but also to shape
who tomorrow’s investor will be. Today’s children are tomorrow’s wealth
creators and giving them an early start can help build the financial habits and
foundations they will carry into adulthood,” says Gitogo.
On his part, Britam Asset Managers CEO
and Principal Officer Barack Obatsa, noted that the firm is keen on making
investment a more familiar part of everyday financial planning, rather than an afterthought
in a bid to instil better wealth creation strategies.
“At Britam Asset Managers, we are
focused on making professionally managed investments more accessible,
understandable and relevant to more Kenyans at every stage of their wealth
journey. KidNest extends that commitment to the earliest stage of life,
enabling families to make a child’s first investment from KES 1,000,” says Obatsa.
He adds that by giving children the
benefit of time, consistency and compounding, they are not only helping build a
financial nest egg for their future but also nurturing a generation that sees
investing as a lifelong habit rather than something to start later in life.
Latest data on household savings and
investments habits shows that the proportion of Kenyan adults who save declined
from 74 per cent in 2021 to 68.1 per cent in 2024, with supporting data from
the 2024 FinAccess Household Survey indicating that only 18.3 per cent of
Kenyan adults were financially healthy, a situation that highlights the
importance of strengthening financial planning and resilience.
The Survey further revealed that while
formal financial access in Kenya increased from 83.7 per cent in 2021 to 84.8
per cent in 2024, only 42.1 per cent of the population demonstrated high
financial literacy based on knowledge of concepts including inflation, interest
rates and risk diversification — underscoring the case for building these habits
early.
With more than KES 250 billion in
assets under management, Britam Asset Managers continues to expand investors’
access to professionally managed wealth-building solutions that are relevant at
every stage of the wealth journey.
KidNest is the latest step in that
journey, reflecting BAM's commitment to strengthening the local investment
culture and its ambition to help shape the country's next generation of
investors.
