and items to cushion locals in western Kenya against Covid-19 effects
The Kenya Electricity Generating Company has donated food and other items that will help in cushioning the some people living in West Kenya region.
Ken Gen Western Kenya regional Manager Eng. Alfred Abiero
says this has been part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility to the
local people staying near areas where it has power generation stations in the
larger Western Kenya region.
Addressing the press at Sondu/Miriu Hydro power station today
when he flagged off the donation of the food and other items, Eng. Abiero said the
food and those other items cost around shs 7.9 Million.
He says the areas in western Kenya region which will be benefiting from the initiative include Communities living around Sondu/Miriu
Hydro power Station, Gogo Hydro power station in Migori County, Turkwel
Hydro power station in West Pokot and Turkana Counties among other areas.
Abiero says part of the donation include safety kits to help
contain the spread of Corona virus, adding that food items include maize among
other food items.
“We are supporting the people in Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori,
Turkana, West Pokot counties with emergency relief supply include food and
Covid-19 safety kits,” Eng. Abiero says.
He adds that other areas outside Western Kenya like Olkaria,
Tana Delta, Nakuru, Garisa, Kitui and Eastern Region have also been supported
by the Company as part of the corporate agenda.
The Ken Gen Western Kenya regional Manager further said
their main agenda is to address the hygiene during this Covid-19 pandemic but
has also decided to address the issue of starvation where a number of people
have undergone due to the pandemic since its first case was reported in the
country in March this year.
In Kisumu and Homa Bay Counties, the donation from Ken Gen
will benefit people from living near Sondu/Miriu hydro power station, Rachuonyo
East and North.
Nyakach Senior Assistant Commissioner Solomon Chanzira
represented the Nyakach Deputy County Commissioner.
