Three people killed following Kisumu Flyover accident
THREE People are feared dead following a road accident that has occurred in Kisumu at a flyover along Kisumu-Nairobi Road near Nyamasaria area.
The driver of the trailer died on the spot while two occupants were pronounced dead on arrival at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu.
One person was critically injured and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The accident occurred when a trailer carrying sugarcane to a Sugar factory within the region lost control and dropped off from the Nyamasaria flyover when the accident occurred today at around 11:00am.
The ill-fated trailer damaged other two private vehicles that were at a nearby car wash.
The injured victim is said to be one of the people who were operating the nearby car wash where the accident occurred.
According to those who witnessed the accident, the trailer lost balance from the flyover and veered off downwards ramming itself into two private vehicles in a nearby car wash.
“I was following the trailer when it lost balance and veered off the flyover after which it rammed into two other vehicles that were at the car wash,”
The residents have appealed to the Kenya National Highways Authority to re-look into the flyover and ensure it is okay, adding that a number of Lories and trailers have lost control causing accidents at the spot.
They have also proposed the Kenya National Highways Authority should have an alternative route for the Lorries and trailers.
They add that the Authority should improve the wall where the flyover is so as to make it safer for trailers to pass with ease.
“We appeal to the authorities to come and check on why there have been accidents here at the Flyover at Nyamasaria area and rectify where the mistake is to avoid such accident again in future,” one of the residents says.
The deceased were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary.
The incident caused a traffic jam along the busy Kisumu-Nairobi highway.
Kisumu County Police Commander Samuel Anampiu confirmed the Accident.
