Ruto
told tame his CSs not engage in politics while still in office
President
William Ruto has been told to tame his Cabinet Secretaries not to
engage in Politics while still holding public offices.
Former
President of the East African Law Society Senior Counsel James Aggrey Mwamu
says the constitution and the laws bar Civil Servants including Cabinet
Secretaries from engaging deeply in politics.
Addressing
the press in Kisumu, Mwamu said the laws bars the cabinet secretaries be it in
United Democratic Alliance {UDA} or Orange Democratic Movement {ODM} Party
serving in the Cabinet from engaging in Politics.
Mwamu says
Leadership and Integrity Act Section 12 talks about Conflict of Interest thus
barring the Cabinet Secretary from politicking.
“Cabinet
Secretaries are not supposed to engage in political affairs of this county but
you find that some of the CSs are donning the shirts belonging to political
parties’ colors and this is conflict of interest,” Mwamu says.
Mwamu says
such civil may be taken to court and they will be barred from holding public
office.
He says the
current constitution separates Cabinet Secretaries from running the political
affairs of the country.
Mwamu says
those Cabinet Secretaries who were hired on the basis of being experts should
remain so.
“If such
CSs want to engage in politics, then they should first resign to allow them
engage in political affairs of the country,” Mwamu adds.
