Kisumu’s Mama Ngina Children Home re-location in the offing

Plans are underway to re-locate Mama Ngina Children home in Kisumu.

 

The Principal Secretary for Children Services Carren Ageng'o says plans have been mooted to relocate Mama Ngina Children's Home from its current location.

 

The Principal Secretary says the Children’s home will be relocated  to either Kombewa in Seme Sub-County or Milimani Area within Kisumu Central Sub-County.

  

Speaking during  during her courtesy call to the County Government of Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr.Mathews Owili where they held a consultative discussions in the wake of the unfortunate fire tragedy at the home,Ageng'o  said the environment is not conducive for the children to stay in.

 

The PS says it is prudent to re-locate the Children Home to give it a more conducive and spacious place for the Children to be more comfortable.

 

Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr. Mathews Owili said that the engagement underscored shared resolve between the State Department, the County Government and development partners, to strengthen and optimize on-going rehabilitation efforts at the institution.

 

Their deliberations also focused on immediate remedial measures and long-term structural steps towards restoring safety, stability and public confidence in this social service centre. Central to our discussions was the imperative of building resilient systems that guarantee the welfare, protection and holistic development of every child under institutional care.

 

Owili and Ageng'o further explored avenues for deeper collaboration between Kisumu County and the National Government in developing and implementing a comprehensive child protection framework for enhanced safety standards, sustainable budgetary allocations, universal access to quality basic education and strengthened healthcare support.

 

"As Kisumu, we remain steadfast in our duty to safeguard the most vulnerable among us. We fully support the National Government’s decision to relocate Mama Ngina Children’s Home to a safer and more suitable site, "Says Kisumu Deputy Governor.

 

Also present were County Commissioner Benson Leparmorijo, County Executive Committee Members Farida Salim and John Awiti, Hellen  Apiyo – Centre Manager, Mama Ngina Children’s Home, alongside other county and national government officials.
