KRA Partners with
Media to enhance tax compliance
The Kenya Revenue Authority has partnered with the media to enhance
issues of Tax Compliance by Tax payers across the country.
The Kenya Revenue Authority and the Media are working closely to ensure
that the issue of tax compliance is fully highlighted so that many people pay
tax willingly.
Addressing Members of the Media Fraternity from Kisumu region during a
forum with the Media to highlight on issues of the importance of being
compliant as a Tax payer, Kenya Revenue Authority Commissioner for Micro and Small Tax Payers George Obell said the Key Agenda is to ensure that
taxes are paid equitably.
Obell says KRA is working closely with the Media Fraternity to ensure
that the messages about paying taxes reach a wider audience across the various
parts of the country.
He says messages of equity and support should reach a wider audience so
that everyone can be able to pay tax.
"Our key agenda is to make sure
that tax is paid equitably. You will soon start seeing our people on the ground
to engage with the MSMEs," KRA Commissioner says.
He says when the Authority
distributes the Tax bracket then a lot of pressure for paying taxes is reduced.
“In our tax base expansion we are
working towards a mechanism to partner with the media and this will really help
us send the message home and make public understand on the need to pay taxes,”
Obell adds.
Commissioner for Micro & Small Taxpayers
reaffirms the Authority’s commitment to supporting businesses through enhanced
services, simplified tax solutions, and continuous public engagement.
He highlights the introduction of
daily Turnover Tax payments to ease cash flow for small businesses and promote
timely compliance.
He says KRA remains focused on
expanding the tax base, ensuring fairness, and fostering a collaborative
environment that supports business growth and voluntary compliance.
KRA Deputy Commissioner for Policy and Tax Advisory Esther Wahome says
an estimated 22 Million plus Kenyans have KRA PIN.
She says out of this number, 6 Million pay tax, adding that 3.2Million
are in formal employment.
She adds that about 17 million file Nill Returns.
