Change of guard at Church of Christ in Africa as new Arch Bishop elected in Kisumu.

THE Church of Christ in Africa {CCA} has elected its third Arch Bishop who takes over from its outgoing head.

In a peaceful polls held within the Church Headquarters at Migosi Estate in Kisumu today, the Church elected Bishop Patrick Ligawa who is now the Arch Bishop-Elect to take over from the retiring Arch Bishop Dr. Habakuk Onyango Abogno.

The Church’s Synod under the Synod Conference which has been held today has participated in the election of the New Arch Bishop who has been a bishop of the church.

Four Bishops from the Church namely Patrick Ligawa, Richard Aruwa, Moses Okoth and Shadrack Juma contested for the coveted seat.

In a hotly contested election, Bishop Patrick Ligawa emerged the winner after garnering 78 votes against his closest challenger for the seat Bishop Richard Aruwa who garnered 23 votes.

Bishops Moses Okoth and Shadrack Juma both managed to get 7 and 6 votes respectively.

Addressing the press after the exercise, the Outgoing Arch Bishop Habakuk Abogno said he is satisfied with the outcome of the polls where the New Arch Bishop to succeed him has been elected.

“I am happy and as the outgoing Arch Bishop for this church and I am satisfied with the decision,” Dr. Abogno says.

The new arch Bishop Elect Patrick Ligawa has promised to ensure that the church remain united under his leadership.

The consecration and enthronement of the New Arch Bishop of the Church of Christ in Africa will be done on June 23 this year where the outgoing Archbishop will officially hand over the instruments of power to his successor.

The Church of Christ in Africa has only had one top leadership transition that was from its founder Arch Bishop Mathews Ajuoga who died in the year 2009 and Arch Bishop Habakuk Abogno took over from him.

This is going to be the second transition where a retiring Arch Bishop is going to hand over to an elected Arch Bishop upon attaining mandatory retirement age of 75 years according to the church’s constitution.

The Church was established in 1957 after its founder broke away from the Anglican Church of Kenya.
