Politicians in Kisumu West Constituency signs peace agreement ahead of the polls.

Various aspiring politicians in Kisumu West Sub-County have signed a peace charter aimed at maintaining peace before, during and after this year’s General Election.

The peace Charter has been signed after the area Security and Intelligence Committee led by Kisumu West Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner Walter Ngaira held a meeting with all the aspiring politicians for the seat of the MP and MCAs.

The peace charter requires all the aspiring politicians as well as those currently serving to remain peaceful during this electioneering period as well as observing the rule of law during this period.

They also agreed that all the security officers and civil Servants to remain politically impartia.

The various stakeholders also agreed that a team comprising of all sectors be formed to mitigate and mediate in case of conflict.

"All aspirants must recognize and accept that election must have winners and losers and the agrieved parties must follow the rule of law," part of the signed agreement read.

They also agreed to preach, uphold and emphasize the concept and spirit of non violence throughout the electioneering period among other things.

Kisumu West MP John Olago Aluoch also attended the meeting and said it is very important to hold peaceful elections.

Olago urged all the aspiring politicians to be very keen and observe the rule of law and run peaceful campaigns devoid of chaos.

Kisumu West Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner Walter Ngaira said the security team want the politicians to maintain peace during this electioneering period.

Roseline Onunga, the CEO of Local Capacities for Peace international which has spearheaded the signing of the peace charter process said they will move in the remaining sub-counties to lobby for peace just as it did in the last General Elections.
