October 16, 2019.
Project proposals should be identified by the
locals, Kajulu residents say.
ALL the Development projects that are to be undertaken at
the ward level should first be identified by the residents of that particular
ward before being fully implemented but not the county Government, Ward
residents have said.
The residents of Kajulu Ward in Kisumu East Sub-County
within Kisumu County say this will be the surest way that they fully own the
projects at the ground level.
Addressing the gathering during a public participation
process for the identification of the projects for the financial year 2019/2020
held today within Gita Chief’s camp, the residents said the issue of identifying
projects must just come from the residents of a particular ward as this will
make them be part and parcel of such projects.
They say the Executive wing of the County Government should
never propose development projects for the wards within the county.
Led by their Member of the County Assembly Roy Samo, the
residents the current 11 development projects located for the ward at shs 24
million is not enough hence the need to allocate for more funds for more
projects.
They say the ward needs about 45 million to implement the
various projects it needs at the grass root level.
The Kajulu residents are also of the view that the projects
being implemented within the ward should be done by the contractors who are
locally available so as to enable the economy of such area to grow with
circulation of the money being within the areas such projects are being
implemented.
“There is need for the projects being done within our areas
to be done by those contractors who are coming within our locality as this will
enable us have good circulation of money here hence locals will get empowered,”
they say.
Samo says it would be prudent if the locals are given a
chance to do projects within their areas for them to be fully empowered.
He says he is out to fight for what rightfully belongs to
the people whom he represents at the current County Assembly of Kisumu.
The MCA says he is ready to ensure that he does proper oversight
about the projects being implemented within his ward to ensure prudent
management of public funds.
The residents say there is no need a ward like Kajulu with a
population of 25,000 voters can be allocated shs 24million for projects, adding that the ward should be allocated more funds for its development projects.
