Governors work on economic
recovery strategy in their counties due to Covid-19
GOVERNORS across the country are working to come up with strategies
to help in the recovery of economy within their counties following the effects
of Covid-19.
Chairman of the Council of Governors Wickliffe Oparanya says the
Council has already constituted a committee that is working on the recovery of
the economies of the various counties after the Covid-19 ended.
Oparanya says it is not known when the pandemic will end but
such a strategy should be put in place as early as possible because already the
pandemic has affected the economy of various counties.
Addressing the press in Kisumu to give updates on the
Council’s preparedness on Covid-19, Oparanya said the committee intends to
visit all the 47 counties to assess the damage that has taken place as a result
of Corona Virus.
Oparanya who is also the Governor of Kakamega County says,
the committee will also look at the County Integrated Development Plans {CIDPs}
of all the counties.
He says after looking at all the CIDPs of all the counties,
the CIDPs can be revised in line of what would have happened so that when the
next budget comes can address some of the damages caused and can be repaired.
Oparanya says such a move will surely help the economies of
the counties to recover as quickly as possible.
He says the council appreciates the Economic Stimulus Package that
the National Government is undertaking for the country in regard to effects of Covid-19.
He appeals to the National Government to involve the County Governments
in the process of implementation of the recovery of the economy of this
country.
ENDS:
cool in line of revising the CIDP to address the challenges we now need robust public participation towards this noble idea.
