26 Public schools benefit from Foundation’s donation of Covid-19 kits in Kisumu

A TOTAL of 26 public schools in Kisumu County have so far benefitted from donation of items to help them fight the Corona virus pandemic.

The schools that include both Primary and secondary have received items such as hand wash tanks, sanitizers and face masks from Mwalimu James Japheth Foundation which has done the distributions in the schools for one month.

Speaking during the donations of the items at Nyatege, St Aloice Mayenya Primary schools and Dr Aloo Gumbi and Mayenya Secondary schools, the Foundation’s President James Aggrey Mwamu said they are targeting 100 schools within Kisumu County to benefit from the initiative.

Mwamu says a number of schools within the county still lack the much needed items such as sanitizers, hand washing tanks and face masks since schools re-open on October 12 this year after a seven-month holiday following closure of learning institutions across the country in March due to Covid-19 pandemic.

He says there is still need for more well-wishers to come to the aid of schools in providing them with items that will help them prevent the school community from contracting Corona virus.

Mwamu has appealed to members of the public to be very extra careful and keep on observing the Ministry of Health Guidelines on Covid-19, adding that the pandemic is real and no one should take chances at all.

“I want to urge members of the public to be very careful indeed since this disease is real. They should keep on observing the guidelines from the Ministry of health on Corona virus such as wearing face masks properly, Keeping social distance of one meter as well as proper hand washing with soap and clean water or sanitizing hands,” Mwamu says.

Mwamu has urged leaders within the community to ensure that schools have proper structures, adding that a number of schools even lack fence hence is security risks.

Mwamu has challenged the leadership in Kisumu East Constituency to ensure that roads network in the area are improved, adding that most of the roads within the constituency are in a very bad state due to heavy rains

A number of schools which have benefitted from the donations have thanked the foundation for such an initiative terming it a reprieve since some of them could not afford purchasing the items.

Some of the schools that have also so far benefited from the donation include Nyalunya, Buoye, Orongo, Omung’i, Nyamware, Kadiju, Okok, Kibos Secondary school, Ragumo.
