Govt has elaborate development
plans for all parts of the country
THE Kenya Kwanza Government has an elaborate development
plans for various parts of the country including Nyanza region.
Cabinet Secretary in charge of ICT and Digital Economy Eliud
Owalo says the government has come up with various development plans for
different part of the country with an aim of growing in terms of development.
Addressing the residents of Nyando Constituency in Kisumu
County during a Sunday Church Service at Nomiya Church, Cabinet Secretary in
charge of ICT and Digital Economy Eliud Owalo said for Nyanza region, various
development plans have been put in place.
Owalo says the Kabonyo Fisheries Institute within Kisumu
County has been allocated about shs 3 Billion and it will help in training the fisher
folks to learn the modern techniques in fishing.
He says the Government also has plans to establish fish
processing plants along various beaches within the Lake Victoria so as to allow
those in the fishing industry to access services closer to where they are.
“Under the President Dr. William Ruto’s Government, we will ensure
that the potentials in the fishing industry are fully utilized,” Owalo says.
Owalo says the Government has now embarked on revitalizing the
Sugar industry across the country and will lease the state owned sugar millers
to private investors as opposed to selling them under the privatization
process, adding that the Government is in the process of identifying the
private investors.
“The funds the Private investors will pump in the sugar
industry will be able to be utilized in settling out the sugar cane farmers’
debts and to also buy new machines that will enable them operate at the optimal
capacity level,” Owalo adds.
He says there is already a new variety of rice seeds for the
purpose of upscaling the rice farming across the country that includes Ahero
Irrigation scheme.
The CS adds that the Koru-Soin Multi-Purpose Dam issue will
be pursued to a logical conclusion and will help in controlling the issue of
perennial floods in Nyando as well as help in up scaling the irrigation
project.
He says plans are also in place to ensure the last mile water
connectivity in homes and in Nyanza the Lake Victoria Water Works Development
Agency chaired by Odoyo Owidi is tasked to ensure that this is done.
He further says the Government want to change the paradigm
and will ensure that the development projects earmarked so far will be realized
during the first term of Kenya Kwanza Government.
