Ruto told to be patient until court determines Gachagua’s case

President Dr William Ruto has been urged to be patient until the case filed by the impeached Deputy President is fully heard and determined.

Former President of the East African Law Society James Aggrey Mwamu says there is no way the Chief Justice will swear in the Deputy President nominee Prof Kithure Kindiki before the case filed by the impeached Deputy President is determined in court.

Addressing the press at his office in Kisumu today, Mwamu said there are some people trying to pile pressure on the President to ensure his nominee for the Deputy President’s position is sworn in despite the case in court.

Mwamu says the Judiciary through the Chief Justice should not be intimidated so as to swear Prof Kithure Kindiki as the next Deputy President, replacing Gachagua whom the Senate recently upheld his impeachment by the National Assembly.

Mwamu says President Ruto should maintain patience just as he did during the case where his election as the fifth President was challenged in the Supreme Court of Kenya in September 2022.

Mwamu says the issue of impeaching the Deputy President is not done for Gachagua alone but to other people who will also occupy the office of the Deputy President in future hence should not be viewed as a Gachagua affair.

“The impeachment of the Deputy President can happen to anybody and this one is not being done for Gachagua but the office of the Deputy President hence this is why perimeters should be laid properly to ensure if such a thing will be handled in a proper manner,” Mwamu says.

Mwamu maintains that there is no constitutional crisis in the country in regard to the offices of the President and the Deputy President.
