Governor Nyong’o told
to give update on his score card for 100 days in office.
THE County Government of Kisumu under Governor Prof.Peter
Anyang’ Nyong’o has been told to give update on the ten things the Governor promised
within 100 days after taking over office.
Transform Empowerment for Action Initiative {TEAM} has
challenged the County Government to tell the electorates on the progress of the
ten point agenda which was to be implemented within the first 100 days in
office.
TEAM Executive Director George Collins Owuor says it is
prudent if Governor Nyong’o provides an update on how far the ten points have
been implemented so far since the 100 days has already elapsed and the public
want to know the progress made specifically on his ten-point agenda.
Owuor says that now the County Executive Committee Members
have been appointed into the office, it is okay for the executive wing of the
County Government of Kisumu to give a report on how far the implementation is.
“This Ten-point agenda was per department and it is now very
fair if the executive give an update on how they have been implemented within
100 days as promised by the Governor during his inauguration in August,” Owuor
says.
Some of the ten point Agenda
Governor Prof. Nyong’o outlined during his inauguration to be tackled within
first 100 days in office includes establishment of proper governance in Kisumu
City by creating a city management Board and a city Manager, re-location of
Kachok dumpsite, clean up the drainage system in the City of Kisumu as well as
initiating the improvement of road networks coupled with cleaning up the Lake
front in preparation for further infrastructural improvement to facilitate
maritime transport, tourism and regional trade.
Others include establishment of
the Village councils so as to strengthen devolution, establishing Kisumu County
Road Maintenance Teams {KCRMT} to help in maintaining access roads once they
are constructed, monthly salaries and clear terms of service for all the Community
Health Workers, establish Kisumu Economic and Social Council {KECOSOC}, revival
of the sugar industry and sustainable development of the sugar industry and
initiating and rejuvenation of the rice industry.
Governor Nyong’os tenth point was
to initiate the modernization of Jubilee, Kibuye and Otonglo markets to improve
security of traders, create more space for trading, better sanitation,
provision of water and easier access to banking services with 100 days.
Efforts to get comment from Director of Communications at the County Government of Kisumu Atieno Otieno proved futile as she did not answer the text message sent to her by this writer.
Owuor at the same time has urged Kisumu County Senator Fred
Outa to give an update on the number of legislations he has done in the Senate
while representing the people of Kisumu County within the first 100 days in the
office.
“We are also asking Kisumu County Senator Fred Outa to give
us the updates on how he has performed on the pieces of legislations within the
first 100 days as our Senator who represent the interest of the people of
Kisumu County”, Owuor adds.
Owuor has urged Senator Outa not to try to interfere with
the Executive wing of the County Government of Kisumu, adding that the Senator
should stick to his role of representation, Legislation and oversight the County Government under Prof. Peter
Anyang’ Nyong’o.
“It is a fact that one of the roles of the senator of Kisumu
County is to play an oversight role and we do not have a problem with that.
What should never be there is interest in the executive by the Senator because
this will make him not to do his oversight role effectively,” Owuor says.
