Kisumu Women Rep’s Office sponsors another batch of 210 girls training at NITA.

THE Office of Kisumu County Women Representative through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund{NGAAF} has sponsored another batch of 210 girls to get training at the National Industrial Training Authority Centers across the country.

This is the second batch of girls from the seven sub-counties in Kisumu County who are being sponsored by the office of Kisumu County Women Representative after a similar number was sponsored to undertake different technical courses.

Addressing the press in Kisumu today when she flagged off the buses taking the sponsored girls to various NITA centers across the country, Kisumu Women Representative Rosa Buyu said the girls are from very vulnerable backgrounds hence that has necessitated them being sponsored to undertake various technical trainings at NITA Centers.

She says most of the girls being sponsored under the program did not qualify for university education after their form four education, adding that their focus now is on training on technical courses at NITA centers.

Buyu says the girls hails from the seven sub-counties in Kisumu County, adding that each sub-county has produced 30 thereby making the number to be 210.

The Kisumu County Women Representative says the girls will undergo training for a period of three months and then get industrial attachment for another three months and sit for their final exams thereby finishing their courses.

“Today we are unveiling the second chapter of sponsoring the daughters of Kisumu County whom we are giving a second chance to life by taking them to get training at NITA for a period of six months where the first three months they will spend in training while the remaining three months they will be on industrial attachment,” Buyu says.

Buyu says the girls will be trained on various cadres like hairdressing, Masonry, Plant Mechanics, Electric installations among other courses.

Buyu adds that part of those who received a similar training have already been employed in various Government institutions, adding that some have become self-employed.

She further says even some of those who are going to be trained and will not be employed will have a chance to be self-employed after her office will help in purchase of some equipment to help them to be self-reliant.

She says the training will cost about 10 Million, adding that part of the funding is for accommodation, Tuition fees, meals, beddings as well as purchasing sanitary pads for the trainees and fees payment.

She further says each student will benefit by getting shs 35,000 being paid as tuition fees.
NITA Kisumu Center Manager Mary Wamoko says about 69 girls have been admitted there for the training, adding about 43 and 48 are admitted at NITA in Nairobi while about 50 are admitted at Athi River NITA center.

Wamoko has urged the new students to behave well and concentrate fully in their studies during the period they will be there in the training centers across the country.
