County Government of Kisumu has set aside shs 14M to benefit youth in 35 wards

THE COUNTY Government of Kisumu has set aside about shs 14 Million as Youth Fund which will benefit youth across the county.

Chief Officer in charge of Education, ICT and Human Capacity Development Peninah Onyango says the fund will be given to the youth to help them start some small income generating activities.

Addressing the press during this year’s Kisumu County International Youth Day and the launch of Youth week in Kisumu held at One Vibe in Manyatta today, the Chief Officer said the fund will also help the youth in building their capital base.

Onyango says this is one of the programs which the county Government of Kisumu under Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o has put in place to help in empowering the youth.

The Chief Officer also hinted that there is also a program of giving 30 percent procurement opportunities to the youth who would like to do businesses with the County Government.

She says the process of procurement will kick off soon and youth have been fully encouraged to come up and apply for the tenders within the County Government of Kisumu.

“We really want to encourage the youth to apply for the tenders at the County Government of Kisumu because there is a provision for 30 percent procurement opportunities for the youth,” the Chief Officer says.

She urges the youth to have registered companies with all the requirements needed for the process of procurement to be successful.

Director of Youth, Women and People with disabilities Junior Omondi says the County Government of Kisumu has proper plans for the youth, adding that the youth in all the 35 wards will benefit from this funds.

Omondi says this will be done after training the youth on how to utilize the funds prudently and for the intended purposes.

Chairman of the International Youth Day and the National Youth Week steering committee in Kisumu County Philip Pande says the youth should be in the various programs both at the County and National Government.

Pande ask both the National and the county Governments should work closely with all organized youth groups.
