Kuppet urges teachers to fully embrace community based learning

THE Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers has urged the teachers across the country to fully embrace Community-Based learning which is being implemented due to Corona virus.

Kuppet Secretary General Akello Misori says the program is a good one and will enable the learners to be busy during this time of Corona virus pandemic.

Addressing the press in Kisumu today during the launch of Kuppet Kisumu County Bus for members, Misori said the program is well framed on the basis of Covid-19 pandemic.

Misori says teacher should try and understand the context in which the program has been framed, adding that it will give the teachers opportunities to create activities which will engage the learners since they are the ones who understands the learners best.

The Kuppet Secretary engaging the learners at this time is very important, adding that failure to engage them in meaningful activities will make them to go astray hence the need to fully embrace the program.

“When churches and schools are not there, we are likely to lose this generation and everyone must understand that at the time of war each and every one of us is called upon to cooperate and lend a hand to defeat the enemy hence the need to embrace the Community based learning,” Misori says.

Misori says the teaching fraternity across the country has not been affected in terms of payment of their monthly salaries from the Government hence it is now time for the teachers to give back to the society in terms of participating in the Community-Based Learning.

“You are being asked to render a community service to the youth so as to salvage them where you give the skills in life to survive as they wait the curve about the pandemic to flatten so that we can have a generation to teach come next year when normal learning resumes,” Misori says.

Misori has reminded the teachers that the program is not a structured learning, adding that the Ministry of Interior’s role is to map out where the learners are and identify them for the program.

Misori adds that reporting to the County Director of Education for the registration exercise should not worry anyone, adding that this is basically to identify those who will offer services under this program.

“Teachers are an authority and the children will understand them better what their parents cannot do,” Misori further adds.

He says as this is done, a generation is saved and teachers protect their jobs.
