Kenyans in Diaspora
endorse Governor Nyong’o re-election bid come next year
They say if given a second term to serve as the Governor, Nyong’o
will further transform the Kisumu County using his ten point agenda in his manifesto.
“Prof. just to let you
know that we descendants of Ramogi in Canada are so much impressed by your
performance as a governor,” he adds
Rev Okoth Otura, North American coordinator is leading the park among some of the Kenyans in diaspora
who have endorsed Kisumu Governor’s re-election bid come next year's General Elections.
Kisumu
Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o was elected as the Governor of Kisumu in August
2017 on a ten point agenda which is outlined in his manifesto he presented to
the electorates that includes ensuring that he established proper governance in
Kisumu City by creating a city management Board and a city Manager.
Cleaning up the dumpsite at Kachok which had
been a big menace to the residents of Kisumu was the second point.
The
other point included cleaning up the drainage system in the City of Kisumu as
well as initiating the improvement of road networks coupled with cleaning up
the Lake front in preparation for further infrastructural improvement to
facilitate maritime transport, tourism and regional trade.
The
fourth thing the Governor was to tackle was to initiate the modernization of
Jubilee, Kibuye and Otonglo markets to improve security of traders, create more
space for trading, better sanitation, provision of water and easier access to
banking services.
Fifth
point was to establish Village Councils and village administrators as a
foundation of devolution to make it possible for public participation in policy
making and the evaluation of policy implementation by all members of the public
in Kisumu County as required by the constitution.
“This
is the only way that the Integrated County Development Plan can legitimately be
generated by the people .The Village Councils will immediately oversee public
health, sanitation, environmental issues, water provision and access roads in
each village of their jurisdiction,” Nyong’o said during his speech when he
took over office as the Governor.
The
establishment of Kisumu County Road
Maintenance Teams{KCRMT} to help in
maintaining access roads once they are constructed thus keeping the roads in
good shape throughout the seasons while providing employment opportunities for
the youth, under the supervision of the village councils was the other point
among the ten.
The
eighth point was to take a comprehensive census of all the Community Health
Workers in the county and within the context of the County Health Management
Bill, make provisions of their monthly salaries and clear terms of service
being that they are the basic health workers within the villages hence their
services cannot be taken for granted.
The establishment of Kisumu Economic and
Social Council {KECOSOC} as a county, national and International forum,
welcoming the participation of the diaspora; incubating the ideas of youth,
women and people with other abilities; providing an arena for discourse between
his government and the private sector; and acting as a conduit for investments
proposals and initiatives which give his government wise counsel on
social-economic development was the ninth point.
Governor
Nyong’o’s tenth point was about initiating and rejuvenation of the rice
industry and the purchase of the JICA tractors which had been non-operational
for the last three years due to the impasse between the outgoing county
government and the JICA.
