Govt assures of free and fair election in peaceful environment

The National Government has reiterated its full commitment to ensure there will be free and fair elections conducted in a peaceful environment on Tuesday next week in all parts of the country.

Through the office of the Government Spokesperson, the Government says all preparations for a successful election are complete.

Addressing the media in Kisumu today at the Nyanza regional Headquarters accompanied by the Nyanza Regional Commissioner Magu Mutindika, the Government Spokesperson Colonel Retired Cyrus Oguna said one of the preparations towards a successful election is about the Ministry of ICT rolling out robust ICT infrastructure for seamless communication support to elections.

Oguna says at the same time, the Ministry of Interior has put in place all necessary security and other measures to ensure that elections are conducted in an environment of peace too.

Oguna says IEBC has also repeatedly assured Kenyans of its preparedness and commitment to conducting free, fair and verifiable elections within a peaceful environment.

“We wish to assure the public that we are committed to free and fair elections conducted in an environment of peace, and that all preparations for successful elections are complete” ,Oguna says.

Oguna adds that as the country goes into the General Election next week on Tuesday, it is imperative that the politicians and electorate alike play their part in promoting peace across the country.

In the spirit of patriotism to our motherland and loyalty to the flag of the Republic of Kenya, we must not cheer those who use foul or indecent language during public rallies, or on social media platforms and not condone language of incitement to violence, ethnic profiling, or displacement,” he adds.

He has called out leaders who use offensive and demeaning language to desist from such.

“Kenya belongs to all of us and if the country falls, we all fall. Nobody shall be spared. Peace, prosperity and economic development in the country therefore depends on each one of us. Let all join hands together to prosecute for peace, and to do our patriotic duty by coming out in large numbers to vote peacefully,” Oguna further says.

Nyanza Regional Commissioner Magu Mutindika says to ensure electoral integrity, the number of security personnel have been increased in polling stations and county tallying centers.

“Requisite resources have also been mobilized to ensure timely and efficient deployment of security personnel to all polling stations across Nyanza region,” Mutindika says.
