Nyong’o gets second term in office as
Kisumu Governor
Kisumu
Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o has officially gotten his second and final term in
office as the Governor after being sworn in today.
Kisumu
Governor has been sworn in to serve for his second and final term in office
alongside his deputy Dr. Mathews Ochieng Owili who has also been sworn-in.
Kakamega
High Court Presiding Judge Justice William Musyoka presided over the swearing
in of Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o and his Deputy Dr. Mathews Owili who will
both serve their second term.
Nyong’o says
he has been re-elected on platform of transforming Kisumu County with work that
has been done in terms of various development across the country, adding he
will deliver what he pledged in his second manifesto for Kisumu County
residents.
Nyong’o says
the campaigns are over and it is now time to work and deliver services to the
residents of the great county of Kisumu.
“Let’s work
together and build Kisumu, because this county is bigger than an individual. I wish
to appeal to you to take active role in the development of this Great County by
contributing to the public good. Be positive and participate in all Public
Participation forums. To drive the point home, allow me to borrow this powerful
quote from former US President, John F. Kennedy who said: ‘Ask not what your country can
do for you – ask what you can do for your country,’ Nyong’o says.
Governor
Nyong’o before his re-election launched his second manifesto for the residents
of Kisumu County.
Among
the twelve-point Agenda that Governor Nyong’o include revitalization of
Agriculture for food security and Agribusiness where he commits to put more
land under production in Nyando, Kisumu East, Muhoroni, Nyakach, Kisumu West
and Seme Sub-Counties.
Under
the above, Nyong’o has plans to revamp rice production, processing with an aim
of installing a rice mill with the capacity to mill, grade and package rice in
Ahero.
He
will also accelerate the growth of dairy Industry by operationalizing the shs
132million Kisumu Dairy Development Center {KDDC} at Nyangore in Muhoroni
Sub-county under revitalization of Agriculture.
Under
Health and Sanitation, Nyong’o has committed to ensure a healthy population in
a clean environment by optimizing community health services through introducing
performance-based incentives to community health workers.
According
to Nyong’s manifesto, establishment of programs to address rising of
non-communicable diseases in the county as well as strengthening primary
healthcare by establishing primary care networks and creating multidisciplinary
family teams in all the sub-counties following a successful pilot in Nyando are
some of the programs under health and sanitation.
On
Roads, Transport and Public works, Nyong’o has committed to complete the 15.2
kilometers NambaKapiyo-Assat Beach tarmac road in Seme Sub-County as well as
opening and maintaining 200kilometers of roads in rural areas.
“Through
using the Kisumu County Roads Maintenance team, we will maintain 210 kilometers
of road network in the rural areas as well as using the machine-based road
construction program to improve the infrastructure in Kisumu County,” says part
of the manifesto, adding that improving Rabuor-Nyang’ande road in Nyando
sub-county using the clay crete roads technology as well as improving
Ahero-Ombaka Road in within Nyando to bitumen standards are part of manifesto
on Roads.
On
education, Nyong’o has promised to promote skills development and innovations
where the County Government of Kisumu will enter into partnerships to enhance
utilizations of the Kisumu Business Incubation and innovation center at the
Rotary Vocational Training Center for skills development and incubation of
business ideas to commercialization will be a key area in his manifesto.
Other
commitments are on water and environment where it takes about conserving the
environment while opening Kisumu Lakefront for business while on housing and
urban development, there will be provision of decent housing inclusive towns,
semi-urban centers and villages where there will be full support to the
construction of 1840 affordable housing units at Makasembo estate in
partnership with Lapfund and supporting such in other areas too within the
county.
On
sports and culture, there is commitment to fully promote sports, culture and
arts through completion of additional infrastructural works of Moi Sports
Complex and enter into partnerships with the private sector to commercialize
the sports complex.
Promotion
of industrialization and a vibrant service sector supported by sustainable
energy source and information and communication technologies is also part of
the manifesto where Nyong’o has committed to opening up the Special Economic
Zone{SEZ} in Miwani to begin operations in collaboration with the Special Economic
Zone Authority.
On
Tourism and Heritage, there is commitment in promoting tourism drive by culture
and heritage as well as new products while on Governance and administration,
there is a promise to deepen the structure governance and strengthen revenue
generation and accountability in using the public funds.
Nyong’o
has maintained that his Government has implemented most of the things he
promised in his manifesto when he assumed office in 2017 after the General
elections.
