Clergy in Nyanza fault Supreme Court over Ruling on LGBTQ

A section of Clergy from Nyanza region have faulted the last week’s Supreme Court ruling declaring that Lesbians, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Queer {LGBTQ} has a right of association in Kenya.

Under the banner of the Nyanza Council of the Church Leaders, they have strongly condemned the recent Supreme Court Ruling terming it contradictory.

To them, they says this is against the will of God and it seems to be offering path to allowing same sex marriage in Kenya which is illegal, adding that it will lead to the destruction of many families across the country.

In a signed Press statement to the Newsrooms, the clergy led by the Council’s Chairman Apostle Dr. Washington Ogonyo Ngede said this issue should have been subjected to a process of public participation so that the view of the public should have been sought first on the need to entrench Lesbianism and gay in the country.

They have asked the Supreme Court of Kenya to quickly rescind the decision, adding that such a ruling should have never been there in the first place.

“As the Clergy, we are strongly opposed to the recent ruling that seems to be in tandem in ushering Lesbianism and gay in the country. As Men off cloth and the people of Kenya, we strongly believe in the Bible and can’t allow to go against its teachings on a man leaving his father and mother to cling to his wife,” Genesis 1:27-28, 2:24 and Romans 1:27-28,” they say.

The clergy say they are fully in support of Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Opondo Kaluma’s intention to sponsor a Bill in Parliament seeking to outlaw Lesbianism and Gay in the country.

They have joined fully in support of clergy from other regions across the country who have equally denounced this in the strongest terms possible.

“This ruling is contradictory in nature and despite gay and lesbianism being illegal in Kenya, the court has ruled in favor of the National Gay and Lesbians Human Rights Commission {NGLHRC}’s right of association in the country,” they add.

They further say as the clergy the ruling has left Kenyans wondering whether other illegal practitioners like pedophile and those involved in incest also have a right to association.

They add such a ruling comes soon after a section of the church in the West decided to bless gay unions.

“The ruling from the Highest Court of the land in the country is a real threat to the sanctity of marriage and the moral campus of the society,” They further say.

Last week on Friday, a seven bench Judge at the Supreme Court of Kenya ruled that LGBTQ have a right of association in Kenya just as any other citizens in the country as enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
