THE Luo Community is in a state of mourning following the untimely demise of the Luo Council of Elders Chairman Ker Willis Opiyo Otondi who passed on today morning.

Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o has led the residents of Kisumu County in mourning the departed Luo Council of Elders Chairman.

In his message of condolence to the family, Kisumu Governor has described Mzee Otondi as a family patriarch and a peace ambassador.

Nyong’o says the late Luo Council of Elders Chairman will be remembered for his political wisdom and rare negotiations skills that helped the community to build bridges with other regions within the country.

Nyong’o has eulogized Mzee Otondi as being insightful and a great defender of the Luo Community’s Political, Cultural and Economic Interests.

“I wish to take this opportunity on behalf of people of Kisumu County to send heartfelt condolences to the family of Mzee Willis Opiyo Otondi, all the elders, Friends, the People of Nyahera and the entire Luo Community following his loss,” Nyong’o says in a Press statement sent to news  rooms.

Speaker of the County Assembly of Kisumu Elisha Jack Oraro has described the Late Luo Council of Elders Chairman as a very intelligent and dependable elder who has been a wise counselor with a role of uniting the nation.

He says Otondi has been a custodian of the rich Luo Culture and tirelessly championed for the utilization of culture in promoting peaceful coexistence within the community and the entire nation at large.

The Speaker says Otondi was always at the forefront of mending cracks in the Luo Community’s and the Nation’s coexistence where he passionately preached the gospel of national Unity and Cohesion.

“I convey my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and the entire Luo Nation, I pray God to grant you strength to bear the big loss,” Speaker Oraro says.

Mzee Willis Opiyo Otondi Succeeded Mzee Riaga Ogallo upon his death in the year 2016 or thereabout.

However, there is a faction of the Luo Council of Elders led by Mzee Nyandiko Ongadi who hails from Southern Nyanza.
