Kisumu County MP launches strategic plan with a focus on health care

The office of the Kisumu County Woman Representative has launched an ambitious four year-strategic plan to steer development National Government Affirmative Action Fund.

Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Adhiambo Odinga has launched her strategic plan for the year 2023 to 2027.

Addressing a gathering of Kisumu County Residents at Tom Mboya Labour College today, the Kisumu Woman Representative said her strategic plan is anchored on six pillars.

Adhiambo says the six pillars of her Strategic Plan include Food Security, Social Protection, Blue Economy, Infrastructure Development, Enterprise Development and Human and institutional Capacity Development.

The Kisumu County Member of Parliament says on Social Protection strategy, she plans to have a social insurance cover program that will benefit up to 700 vulnerable women, youth and People with Disabilities.

I am happy to inform you that top of my social protection strategies is a social insurance cover program dubbed Nyakamami Care through which up to 700 vulnerable women, youth and PWDs will receive insured health services,” Adhiambo says.

She says other social protection programs her office has lined up include social assistance covering food supplies and assistive devices for PWDs and a disaster risk reduction coupled with management program meant to reduce vulnerability during floods, drought and epidemics among others.

The Kisumu Woman Representative says since food security, enterprise development, capacity building or social protection programs are supported by appropriate infrastructure, her office is making arrangements to initiate a number of countywide infrastructural projects.

“Top of my priority is an agro-processing factory to be set up in the county. This factory will receive vegetable, fruit, or crop products from farmers and add value to them through processing after which the products are packaged, labeled and stored in readiness for market,” she adds.

Apart from processing the products, she says the factory will offer employment but also serve as a training station for interns and apprentices.

“My second countywide project is a one stop safe house, child protection unit and rehabilitation and recovery center for vulnerable women, youth, children and PWDs,” she further says.

She adds that the third project is borehole drilling and equipment of up to 35 boreholes as her fourth project will be setting up and equipping 7 sub county ICT hubs.

Adhiambo says the fifth project during her reign will be an off-grid energy plan featuring mainly energy from solar power.

She says Kisumu enjoys ample sun energy throughout the year making solar energy a great potential for off-grid energy solutions.

She adds that her strategy seeks to maintain the balance between economic growth and conservation of water resources.

“In the plan, we prioritize sustainable fisheries management, lake or river tourism, environmentally safe lake transport for resource efficiency, social inclusiveness, and economic empowerment. My office prioritizes use of natural water resources to benefit vulnerable people, alleviate poverty, generate employment, and promote equity,” she further points out.

“I want to reiterate that our future lies in the plight of vulnerable groups in our community; the women, the youth, the PWDs and the children. How we turn out as a society depends on how we address their needs,” Adhiambo further adds.
