Nyanza Clergy want Ruto’s Govt to fulfil its promises

A section of Clergy within the Nyanza Region now wants the Kenya Kwanza Government to fulfil promises it has made to citizens since it took power after the 2022 General Elections and stop lying to Kenyans.

The clergy from various churches in Nyanza region have shown their displeasure with the current regime wanting it to stop lying to Kenyans and fulfil the promises it made.

Addressing the press in Kisumu at St Stephens’s ACK Cathedral, the clergy Arch Bishop of Church of Christ in Africa{CCA} Patrick Ligawa, Bishop of ACK  Bondo Diocese Prof David Kodia, his Maseno West Counterpart John Mark Godia, Bishop Clement Otieno of Free Pentecostal Church of Kenya, ACK Maseno South Diocese Charles Ong’injo and his South Nyanza Counterpart Dr Simon Onyango said the country has slipped into a political totalitarianism and the need to counter this unfortunate turn of event is to relook at the morality of its democracy and jumpstart a process of civil engagements as a last resort in bringing accountability in the political leadership.

“We have been treated to the theatre of the absurd, claims and counter claims from various leaders. The nation has witnessed the worst cases of oppression in recent times, some orchestrated through commercialization of political leadership with the opposition voices virtually eclipsed in Nyanza region after the creation of the broad-based government. The region is yet to find legitimate leadership that can speak out their grievances loud and clear,” They say in a signed Press statement.

They have listed a number of areas including Education, County Funding, University Funding Model, security, health sector Judiciary and corruption as areas hard hit by policies from Kenya Kwanza Government led by President Dr William Ruto, adding that the systematic degradation of Devolution system must be resisted at all cost.

The Clergy have threatened to call Kenyans to exercise civil disobedience that might lead to refusal to pay taxes.

“For this reason, we may call Kenyans to exercise civil disobedience that might lead to refusal to pay taxes. Starving all arms of the government of funds that it uses to intimidate the people of Kenya is a bet sure,” The Clergy add.

They have now placed the eight irreducible demands to the office of the President that include the publication of the people who have been convicted or charged of mega corruption.

They also demand from the President a publication of all the state appointments he has made since he took over the office before and after the creation of the Broad based government.

Other Demands also include the publication of the current state of employment and financial obligations of the staff at state house including the paid prayer warriors as well as the report on foreign travels that the President promised would be cut.

The Clergy also demand that the Government revokes the unpopular funding model that segregates the University students into economic bands and reverts back to the old University funding model that was not discriminatory.

“We further demand that the government immediately implements the University Lecturers’ CBA to allow normalcy at our Universities as well as demanding official statement from the President on the state of the appointment of new IEBC commissioners,” They further say in the Press statement.
