The Ugenya and Embakasi Win is not yours, Nyando MP tells DP Ruto.

DEPUTY President Dr. William Ruto has been told not to celebrate the recently held by-elections in Ugenya and Embakasi South Constituencies because the victory does not belong to Jubilee Party.

Nyando Constituency Member of Parliament Jared Okello has said the Jubilee Party did not field any candidate to contest the parliamentary seat during the just concluded By-elections in Ugenya and Embakasi South Constituencies.

Addressing the press in Kisumu today, the Nyando Lawmaker said the Deputy President William Ruto should not take any credit since the ruling party did not have a candidate sponsored by the party to compete in the race.

Okello wondered why the DP and his brigade are busy celebrating the win by both David Ochieng of MDG in Ugenya Constituency in Siaya County and Julius Mawathe of Wiper in Embakasi South during the By-Election that was held last Friday on April 5, 2019.

The Nyando Member of Parliament has told the Deputy President never to take credit about those who won the two seats.

He urges the Deputy President to keep off the affairs of the National Super Alliance by not discussing the alliance in public at all.

“I have heard that the Deputy President is busy chest thumping that he has won both in Embakasi and Ugenya constituencies and my memory serves me right that there was no candidate sponsored by the Jubilee Party in those two by elections,” Okello says.

He says as ODM Party they really mobilized resources for the Party’s candidate Christopher Karan and they did not hear the mame of Deputy President William Ruto and should not reap where he did not sow.

The Nyando Legislator who is also the in the ODM’s National Executive Committee’s Secretary for Public Policy and Economic Affairs at the National Level says the party has constantly fought for democracy in the country and is still a strong party despite losing in the two By-elections  recently held in the country.

He says Hon. David Ochieng who recently won the Ugenya Parliamentary seat on MDG Party ticket is a product of democracy which has been constantly championed by opposition Leader Raila Odinga.

He says the recent By-Election in Ugenya constituency is a good lesson for all Members of Parliaments to go back and deliver to the election pledges they made to the electorates, adding that this has been evidently seen when David Ochieng was elected last Friday trouncing the ODM Candidate Chris Karan.

“Ochieng was riding on the crest of delivery because he worked a lot to the people of Ugenya during his tenure as the area MP between 2013 to 2017.Wherever people went, they were determined to bring the worker back,” Okello said.

Okello says the ODM Party should now reconsider issues surrounding the treatment of candidates and this must be very equal.

“Ochieng was originally of ODM Party having scanned the environment and thought that the nomination would be flawed and that therefore orchestrated his departure from the party,” the Nyando MP says.

The lawmaker has suggested that the party should put a level playing ground for all the candidates who would like to participate in the nomination process so that it does not lose potential people.

“I know a number of people have talked about the imbalance nature of the nominations and we must therefore ensure that the ground is level for everybody so that we do not loose people with potential such as Hon. Ochieng to move to other political outfits,” Okello added.

Okello however said this is not the first time that other political outfits representing the people of Luo Nyanza region.

“This is not the first time the Luo Nyanza region is being represented by other political outfits. In the year 2013, a whole Governor was elected on a PDP in Luo Nyanza and other MPs were also elected on different political parties in the region so this is not a strange scenario,” Okello adds.

He says in the year 2017 General Elections, there were very few MPs elected on different political parties than in the year 2013.

“This kind of knee jack reaction by that people are alluding to what has just happened in Ugenya constituency perhaps people are just trying to conveniently put history at the back and I want them to know that we got a few number of MPs from other political parties during the 2017 elections as compared to the 2013 one,” Okello further says.

He maintains that ODM Party is still a strong political party, adding the party is still embracing democracy and this is why it has fully embraced the win of David Ochieng in Ugenya Constituency.
He urges people who are claiming that the ODM Party is losing focus are just not being sincere at all, adding that the party is still very much on the right track.

“ODM still remains the most popular party and its lose in Ugenya and Embakasi is not giving an indication that the party is losing grip and still embracing the democracy while embracing the win of David Ochieng in Ugenya,” Okello added.
