Nyong’o launches new ambulatory services for Kisumu County.

KISUMU Governor Prof. Peter Anyang Nyong’o has officially launched an ambitious ambulatory services that will ensure that emergency health cases are addressed urgently.

Nyong’o said with Kisumu being a pilot county on issues of Universal Health Care {UHC} and there is need to ensure that every level health care service delivery does what it ought to do and when it can’t should be referred to another level hence the launch of ambulatory system.

Addressing the press today when he officially flagged off a new state-of the art Ambulance at an estimated cost of shs 5 million for Gita dispensary in Kisumu East Sub-County, Kisumu Governor Nyong’o said the new ambulatory system will be used for referral of cases to other health facilities within the county.

Nyong’o said under the new Ambulatory system, each of the seven sub-counties within Kisumu county will have a new state-of-the art ambulance fully equipped so as to address the need of various cases of referrals to other health facilities within the County.

He said the new ambulances will be connected to what is known as County Ambulatory services which is an ICT system that connect all the seven ambulances through a number that will be able to locate a free ambulance in any of the sub-counties within the county so as to take up an emergence services needed especially on referrals to other health facilities.

“Under this new system, any ambulance in any sub-county will be able to be allocated for any quick referral to any of the health facilities within the county so as to respond to an emergency cases that may occur,” Nyong’o said.

Nyong’o says the remaining seven new ambulances will be brought in due course, adding that an extra new ambulance will be strategically placed at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu City.

Governor Nyong’o has described the new ambulance as a moving Intensive Care Unit Machine, adding that some of the features it has include Life support machine and ECGM Machine among others.

Kisumu County Acting Executive Committee member in charge of health Nerry Achar said the remaining seven ambulance will be purchased at a cost of shs 10million each, adding that they will arrive soon so as to help in the health facilities that require new ambulatory system.

Achar who is also the County Executive Committee Member in charge of Finance said already the one purchased so far has cost shs 5million.

Governor Nyong’os move come barely a year and half after he hinted that the Kisumu County needs a serious ambulatory services.

Nyong’o said the well-established ambulatory system will ensure ambulatory services are improved and the public will greatly benefit from it.

Addressing the press in his office when officials of the Kenya Red Cross paid him a courtesy call then led by its Governor Mohamud Mohamed, Nyong’o said there is no need for every health facility to have its own ambulance but need to establish a serious ambulatory system.

Nyong’o said his County Government and the Kenya Red Cross Society would soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding so as to ensure that proper ambulatory system is put in place in Kisumu County.

“We are soon signing MoU with the Kenya Red Cross so as to help in establishing a serious ambulatory system which will greatly help in benefiting the public,” Nyong’o said.
