Clergy urges DP Ruto to desist from utterance portraying Raila not as a believer in God

A SECTION of Clergy in Nyanza region have told the Deputy President Dr. William Ruto to desist from utterances trying to portray Orange Democratic Movement Party as a person who has never believed in God.

The clergy under the banner of the Nyanza Council of Church Leaders has observed that the Deputy President’s recent remarks that Kenya is not a Reggae and witchcraft nation but a God fearing nation targets the ODM Leader and meant to demean the Building Bridges Initiative.

In a press statement to the Newsrooms, the Chairman of the Nyanza Council of Church leaders Apostle Bishop Dr. Washington Ogonyo Ngede and the Council’s Vice Chairman Arch Bishop Julius Otieno Oloo said the use of Reggae Music is a political language as it is not God.

“That is not true, Right Honorable Raila Odinga is a God fearing man, they have built an Anglican Church at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi which is the rural home of his late Father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga in Bondo within Siaya County and they are always attending church services,” says part of the press statement.

The clergy say on several occasions, they have been invited to conduct prayers for the Odinga’s family and never at any point have they come across Raila practicing witchcraft.

On the issue of Building Bridges Initiative, the clergy say it is the vehicle that God has given to the people of this nation to chart way forward hence should be seen as a way of uniting the nation rather than dividing it.

They add that the dream of the initiative should not be killed by some individual politicians who are not ready to embrace unity in the country.

“We are asking politicians across the various political divide to desist from issuing utterances which may divide the country further especially at this time when it needs peace,” they add.

On the issue of handshake, the clergy have said it has created a conducive environment for doing business in various parts of the country and should not be taken for granted, adding that as the clergy across the country they have been praying over the unity of this country.

“We want to therefor condemn any form of reckless utterances from any politician who is out to take the country backward by issuing statements that target to divide the country along tribal line,” they further said.
