Kisumu lawyers demand thorough probe into the death of their Colleague in Kakamega

A section of lawyers practicing within Western Kenya region have demanded a thorough investigation to ascertain what killed one of their colleagues in Kakamega town last week.

Led by the new chairperson of the Law Society of Kenya Kisumu Chapter Joan Neto, the lawyers vowed that they will not relent until the killers of their colleague known as Hillary Obilo are brought to book.

Addressing the press near the new Kisumu Law Court today, the lawyers castigated the act of brutally killing their colleague whom they have described as young and very visionary.

Kisumu Chapter Law Society of Kenya Chairperson Joan Neto says the DCI in Kisumu should team up with their Kakamega counterpart so as to carryout investigations into the killing of the lawyer.

“As Kisumu Chapter of the Law Society of Kenya, we strongly stand with our colleagues in Kakamega following the unfortunate incident where one of us has been killed and we request the DCI to speed up investigations into this matter,” Neto said.

Lawyer David Otieno says they are very much disappointed with what has happened to their colleague.

He adds that the Kisumu Chapter of the Law Society of Kenya has already petitioned various agencies over the matter.

Otieno says cases where lawyers have died under unclear circumstances are increasing across the country.

“Circumstance of the death of our colleague is not clear and we have petitioned the relevant authorities to look into this. It would amount to intimidation of  the members of the legal fraternity and an interference with their work,” Otieno said.

Otieno says the Government has a full responsibility of protecting all its citizens, adding that no Kenya should lose his life in a brutal manner.

Lawyer Hillary Obilo who has been practicing law as advocate of the High Court of Kenya was found dead within Kakamega region but his vehicle was found abandoned in Kisumu last week.
