Siaya County Assembly approves
nominees to the Public Service Board
The
County Assembly of Siaya has approved Governor Cornel Rasanga’s nominees
to the County Public Service Board.
The
unanimous decision has been arrived at after a rigorous vetting exercise
carried out by the House Committee on Appointments which is being chaired by County
Assembly Speaker George Okode.
The
approved nominees who have satisfied the provisions of Section 58 of the County
Governments Act, 2012, read together with the Public Appointments (County
Assemblies Approval) Act, No. 5. of 2017 include Dr. Elijah Ochieng Achoch
as Chairperson, Magaga A lot, Joseph Rading Otieno and Joan Atieno Odawa who
have been approved as Members of the Siaya County Public Service Board.
Others
include Anne Akinyo Ludenyo Dr. Margaret Akinyi Oloo who have also been
approved as members of the Board.
The
previous list of nominees to the Siaya County Public Service Board tabled and
debated in the House on 29th August, 2019 was rejected since the
process didn’t adhere to the values of integrity, competitiveness and
meritocracy.
However,
courtesy of a report laid on the Floor by Usonga Ward Member of the County
Assembly Sylvester Madialo, the House observed that the process leading to the current
nomination, as evidenced by the recruitment report and associated documents,
exhibited principles of competitiveness and meritocracy as provided for in the
County Governments Act, 2012, the Public Appointments (County Assemblies
Approval) Act, No 5 of 2017 and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission
recommendation on persons nominated for appointments and requiring approval of
County Assemblies.
The resolution of the County Assembly of Siaya will be forwarded to the Siaya Governor Cornel
Rasanga who will now
formally appoint the nominees as members of the County Public Service Board.
