Muslims in Kisumu say they will stick to Government’s directive on Coronavirus Pandemic

The  Muslims fraternity in Kisumu have said they will stick to the National Government’s recent directives on the coronavirus pandemic.

Led by the Chairman of Kisumu Muslims Association, they said they will strictly adhere to that so as to help in curbing the spread of the virus.

Addressing the press today at Jamia Masjid in Kisumu, Kisumu Muslims Association Sheikh Musa Ismael Hajj said there is need for more prayers so as to ask God to save the world about the disease.

He urges Imams and the Sheikhs to continue educating the faithful on the dangers of contracting the virus so that they will be aware about it, adding that this should be done alongside the Government directive and steps taken so far in curbing the rapid spread of the virus.

Hajj says the Association will also embark on distributing soaps and hand sanitizers in all the 52 mosques across Kisumu County.

He adds that they will also distribute the commodities to the estates where Muslims reside, adding that there is need to observe the highest standard of hygiene.

“This pandemic is there world over and we therefore also ask our fellows Muslims to ensure that they strictly adhere to the guidelines give so far as the issue of coronavirus is concerned,” he says.

He urges the Imams and Sheikhs within various Mosques within Kisumu County to ensure that all the prayers done five times a day are shortened so that a lot of time is taken while faithful are crowding a particular place of worship for prayers.

“We are asking our Sheikhs and Imams to consider reading short verses from our holy book Quran during the prayers,” he adds.

He says should the situation get worse, they will advise the faithful to conduct prayers at home, adding that for now those who are unwell are allowed to conduct  prayers at home without going to the mosques.
