Kisumu residents
urged to turn up in large numbers for voters’ registration
RESIDENTS of Kisumu County have been urged to turn up in
large numbers and register as voters ahead of the forthcoming General elections
next year in August.
Nominated Senator Rose Nyamunga says next year’s General
Election is very vital hence every resident of Kisumu County should register as
a voter and participate in the forthcoming polls by casting their votes.
Addressing the residents of Kisumu West Sub-County during a
meeting where the residents endorsed Nyamunga to run for the Kisumu County
Senatorial seat during the next year’s polls, Nyamunga said she is out to
ensure that many new voters are registered by mobilizing the residents for the
exercise.
Nyamunga has urged the residents not to wait until the last
minute to rush for the exercise, adding that they should utilize the remaining
time to register in large numbers as voters noting that it is only a week to
officially close of the one month exercise.
“We have been talking to our people so that they register as
voters during this period of enhanced mass voter registration exercise,”
Nyamunga says.
She says since the mop up exercise to mobilize the residents
of the County to register as voter, some areas like Kodiaga within Kisumu West
Constituency have register a good number of new voters hence is a show that
residents can come out in large numbers for the exercise.
Nyamunga has accepted the endorsement of the Kisumu West
Constituency’s residents to run for the senatorial seat in the next year’s
General elections.
She says she has what it takes to be elected the third
senator of Kisumu County during the next year’s polls.
“I have served as a nominated Senator and now hopes to serve
as an elected senator for Kisumu County come next year. I have learnt a lot as
a nominated senator who has equally served in the Finance committee at the
Senate and I strongly believe I have what it takes to be the next Kisumu County
elected Senator,” Nyamunga says.
She says if elected as the next Senator for Kisumu County,
she will surely protect the interest of devolution as enshrined in the
Constitution of Kenya 2010.
Kisumu West ODM Party Chairman Gideon Otieno Oulu says all
residents should come out and register especially the youth who have the
national identity card but have never registered as voters.
He urges the residents to only register in their areas which
they can access during the voting day, adding that the issue of importing
people and register them in far off areas should never be there.
