Clergy refutes claims of abandoning episcopal work

A Clergy from Nyanza region has vehemently refuted claims that he has abandoned his episcopal work and now seeking handouts from politicians across the political divide.

Apostle Dr. Washington Ogonyo Ngede, the Chairman of the Nyanza Council of Church Leaders said the article that appeared in one of the Weekly Newspapers last week is really untrue and very misleading indeed.

Through a press statement, Apostle Ngede who is also the Head of Power of Jesus Around the World Church said the allegation contained in the said article has tarnished his reputation as a person who has been serving God.

“I wish to categorically refute the allegations leveled against me by one Reporter of a weekly newspaper that appeared in last week’s edition,” he says.

Ngede says he is not a believer in propaganda and blackmail hence can’t entertain aspects of tarnishing his good reputation through character assassination and publishing malicious statement about his personality.

He adds that never at any point has he abandoned his pastoral duties and Episcopal responsibilities as alleged in the newspaper article.

“I want to state herein that I have been very faithful in serving my Lord and My God with zeal and zest together with my country Kenya in any capacity by praying for all leaders in authority because the Bible commands us to pray for Kings and leaders in the book of 1 Timothy 2:1-3,” he further says.

He states that the Nyanza Church and State Corporation on Development is a vision that God gave him in June 1995 and then shared it with the then Government of the late former President Moi, adding that he was unanimously elected as its chairman after its formation.

He adds that the Late Arch Bishop Dr Mathews Ajuoga was his Deputy and the Late Bishop Dr. Francis Mwayi Abiero was the Secretary General while the late Bishop Zephaniah Ouma Orao was the Deputy Secretary General.

He says during that time, Bishop Joseph Ogutu was their Treasurer and from June 1995 there was no election since they served in our capacities as the eight brothers through the spirit of brotherhood hence had no disputes on leadership of the Corporation as alleged in the media report.

Ngede adds that never at any point did he have a leadership wrangle with his late senior brother in Christ Arch Bishop Dr. Silas Owiti on the position of the Corporation’s chairmanship as claimed in the article.

“I have remained the Chairman even after we changed the Corporation to the Nyanza Council of Church Leaders. Arch Bishop Dr. Silas Owiti was a true friend and a brother in Christ and we did not have leadership wrangles with him until he passed on hence the reports indicating that we had a contest where My friend floored me is very misleading and full of distortions. It is also very misleading to report that I was using my position as the Chairman of the Nyanza Council of Churches Leaders to bulldoze my fellow clergy whom we serve the same God with,” he adds.

On the issue of using former Nyanza Provincial Commissioner Joseph Kaguthi, the clergy says it is not true at all because he knew the then Provincial Commissioner just like any other senior civil servant within the region and could meet during the National Holidays celebrations, adding that never at any point did he use him to bulldoze his way into the top as claimed in the media report.

On the issue of attending ODM Party meetings, he states that the former Prime Minister Right Honorable Raila Amollo Odinga is a political party leader and it is not a sin to pray for ODM party and its leadership just like we also do to other political parties and their leaders.
