Call for cost sharing on Secondary schools infrastructure for CBC

The Government has been urged to incorporate cost sharing on the issue of putting up structures in schools across the country in readiness for Competency Based Curriculum.

Former President of the East African Law Society James Aggrey Mwamu says the burden of building dormitories in Boarding Secondary schools should not be left alone for parents as Competency Based Curriculum is set to be rolled out in Secondary schools in the year 2023.

Mwamu says as much as the Government will be putting up classes in schools, there is need for cost sharing in building the dormitories in readiness for the competency Based Curriculum in secondary schools after next year when the first batch from Grade six will join junior secondary schools.

Mwamu says already the parents have been overburdened and some have even lost jobs due to the Corona Virus pandemic hence need not to be left alone on the issue of putting up dormitories in schools.

He argues that if this issue is left alone to parents then in some areas schools will never be developed, adding that the cost sharing should be done on a 50:50 basis.

Meanwhile, Registration of Persons exercise to get Identification cards in Kisumu East Constituency now targets secondary schools where students who have attained the age of 18 years are now being issued with document.

In an exercise supported by James Mwamu who is aspiring to be Member of Parliament in Kisumu East Constituency on ODM Party Ticket, a number of schools within the area are lined up to benefit from the one month exercise.

Mwamu who visited Nyamasaria Secondary school to witness the exercise have encouraged students and residents who have attained the age of being issued with ID to visit the centers where the exercise is taking place.

Principal of Nyamasaria Secondary school Sarah Obewa appreciated the move to bring the services closure to the students in schools.

More than 60 students of the school were registered to obtain Identity Cards and are now having the waiting card for the document.

The exercise is set to continue from tomorrow in a number of schools like Nyalunya Secondary school, Dr Aloo Gumbi among other secondary schools in Kisumu East Constituency.
