Police told to curb cases of insecurity in Kisumu

POLICE in Kisumu County have been urged to help in curbing the cases of insecurity which are said to be on the rise.

Kisumu East Parliamentary aspirant on ODM Party James Mwamu says of late there are increased cases of insecurity in parts of Kisumu county especially Kisumu City that needs to be addressed.

Speaking in Nyalenda A Ward in Kisumu East Constituency where he had taken the Mobilization exercise for the residents to register for Identity cards, Mwamu said it is a worrying trend that even lives have been lost due to insecurity and in some incidences hands have been pointed to the security forces.

He claims that in some incidences members of the public have been mugged and some houses broken into especially in Manyatta B area.

Mwamu spoke after a middle aged man from Manyatta area identified Walter Odhiambo was found murdered with claims that he was executed by the police through shooting on Thursday night at around 2:00am.

Police in Kisumu have said the popular bouncer whom they gunned down in Kondele area was part of the gang who was on a robbery mission.

Kisumu Central Sub-County Police Commander James Ng’etich said the suspect identified as Walter Odhiambo popularly known as Walter Odhiz was part of a five member gang that was on a robbery mission targeting a premise in Kondele area.

The deceased identified as Walter Odhiambo was shot dead at around 2:00am outside a night club where he had been during the fateful night.

Human Rights activists in Kisumu have protested the killing and want the police to probe it with an aim of charging the culprits in Court.

They have appealed to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority {IPOA} to intervene and investigate the matter.

Mwamu at the same time urged the residents of Kisumu East Constituency who have not obtained the ID cards to turn up large numbers and register for the document during the one month exercise that kicked off this month of November on 16.

He also urged the residents to be aware of the Covid 19 disease that is still rampant and always observe the laid down health protocols.
