Professionals Association of Nyanza Women launched in Kisumu

AN Association comprising of women from Nyanza region in  different professions have been officially launched in Kisumu.

In a colourful ceremony Presided over by the Cabinet Secretary in charge of ICT and Digital Economy Eliud Owalo, the Women in different professions hailing from Kisumu, Migori, Siaya and Homa Bay Counties have launched the Professional Association of Nyanza {PANY} Women.

Addressing the participants during the official launch at Ciala Resort in Kisumu West Sub-County on Friday, Cabinet  Secretary in charge of ICT and Digital Economy Eliud Owalo said the launch of the Association is very significant for a number of reasons.

“First, is the very fact that our women are standing up to be counted. Quite often, the huge challenges that confront sustainable human development will tease us to remain in the space of lamentation, despair and buck passing. The women professionals from this region are basically telling us that it is time to put lamentations behind us, and to begin walking the talk and path of development,” Owalo says.

Cabinet Secretary in charge of ICT and Digital Economy Eliud Owalo who is also the Patron of the Professionals Association of Nyanza {PANY} Women says the main focus of the association is on investing in sustainable development for feature generation.

“The second significance is that the women professionals are set to be the trailblazers in waking up the sleeping giant that is the Nyanza Region, and I even daresay the entire Lake Victoria Basin. The woman has been face of the challenges that have faced us as Nyanza and as the Kenyan nation, over the past six decades,” Owalo adds.

Owalo says it is edifying and most encouraging that women are taking the initiative to jolt the Nyanza region from the inertia and paralysis of lamentation, to the edifying promise of the majestic heights of sustainable economic and human development.

Chairperson of Professionals Association of Nyanza {PANY} Women Beatrice Adera says they will launch the Chapters in the four counties namely Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori.

She says the Association will stick to its theme on  investing in sustainable development for feature generation through social economic development.

Adera adds that they are also out to mentor young professional women in Nyanza region and encourage them to give back to the society.

“We also want to expand the financial inclusion opportunities for our women as we have a development oriented agenda,” Adera says.

Other speakers during the launch of the Professionals Association of Nyanza {PANY} Women included United States of America Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman and Indian High Commissioner to Kenya Namgya C. Khampa among other dignitaries.
