The Kenyan Kwanza Government has embarked on providing free public wifi that targets 25,000 hots spots across the country.

Cabinet Secretary in charge of ICT and Digital Economy Eliud Owallo says the free public wifi targets various markets across the country.

Addressing the residents of Ajigo in Bondo and Ndori in Rarieda today during the launch of Free Public Wifi at Ajigo and Ndori Markets, Owallo said the initiative is part of the Digital Transformation Agenda by the Kenya Kwanza Government.

Owallo says at the same time, the Government is set to roll out 100,000 fibre optic cables along side the hot spots.

The Cabinet Secretary says this will enable those doing various businesses at the market centers to have easy and accessible internet services while doing their businesses where they can show case their products online using the free public wifi for their customers to purchase.

He says the fibre optic cables will be done along the electricity lines across the country.

Owallo at the same time the Government has also embarked on establishing Digital hubs across the country, adding that they will be established per ward across the country.

The Cabinet Secretary adds that 1,450 digital hubs will be established across the country.

He says the Government is working in partnership with Members of Parliament who have reviewed the National Government Constituency Development Act so as to help in creating funds for facilities where the digital hubs will be established.

“The Government will be providing the computers to the Digital hubs that will be established,” he says.
