Owalo Foundation Secondary schools basketball Tournament kicks off

THE Much awaited Eliud Owalo Foundation Nyanza High schools Basketball festival has kicked off in Kisumu today at the Maseno School.

The Basketball sponsored by the Cabinet Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy ELiud Owalo under the Eliud Owalo Foundation in partnership with the Kenya Sports Academy kicked off this morning at the Maseno school Basketball court with the host Maseno battling it with Onjiko High school from Nyando Sub-County.

Sengere Girls also battled it out with Asumbi Girls High school within the same court as the festival kicked off. 

Addressing the media during the kick off of the Festival, Cabinet Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy ELiud Owalo said the girls and boys playing in the tournament should take advantage and develop their talents.

Owalo says the tournament is carried out with the six counties of Nyanza namely Kisumu, Homa Bay, Siaya, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira.

The Cabinet Secretary says some talents will be identified and proceed to other levels like the national ones.

Owalo says a total of 390 students are taking part in the tournament whose finals will be held tomorrow  within Kisumu City at Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground, adding that an award ceremony will also be held there for the winners and runners up.
