Regulator told to deal with those conning public on Insurance

The insurance regulator in the country has been told to deal firmly with those conning members of the public seeking insurance services.

Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr. Mathews Owili says a number of conmen or conwomen are busy confusing the public who are seeking insurance services across the country hence urged the Insurance Regulatory Authority to deal with such.

Addressing the Residents of Kisumu during the opening of the insurance open day at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Complex, the Kisumu Deputy Governor said such people are prowling the sector and will definitely try to take advantage.

Owili urges the Authority to be on the look out and weed such characters within the Insurance industry.

The Kisumu Deputy Governor at the same time urged the public to join the last Expense or burial Insurance Cover, adding that a good number of people are keen on ending whatsapp collections for funerals by joining this.

“I am sure many of us have seen an increase in demand for Last Expense (Burial expenses) Insurance cover. A good number of people, keen to end the WhatsApp funeral collections are now joining the last expense insurance cover,” Dr. Owili says.

He has further appealed to the Insurance Regulatory Authority{IRA} to consider opening branches in all the 47 counties so as to bring its services closer to the people at the grass root level.
