Flood Victims in Ksm receives
relief food from the National Govt
The National Government has embarked on providing relief
food to the various victims of flood in Kisumu County.
In Kisumu County, two sub-counties have benefitted from the
relief food donation namely Nyakach and Nyando Sub-Counties.
In Nyando Sub-county, Ombaka area in Kakola Location has
been greatly affected by the raging floods that has been caused by the bursting
of banks of River Nyando yesterday thereby causing major floods.
Addressing the residents of Ombaka area of Kakola Location
within Nyando Sub-county today during the distribution of relief food to the
victims of the raging floods, ICT and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud
Owalo said the government is trying to find a lasting solutions to the issue of
perennial floods in Kisumu County especially in the area of Nyando Sub-County.
Owallo says one of the temporary solutions is about the
construction of the dykes along the Lake Victoria so as to help in controlling
the floods.
The Cabinet Secretary says the lasting solution for the perennial
flooding in Kisumu county and its environs will be the construction of the
multi-purpose Koru-Soin Dam.
He says the Government has the issue of Koru-soin Dam in its
development plan, adding the Government is engaging some partners to aid in the
construction of the multi-purpose dam on a Public Private Partnership terms.
Owallo has urged those living near river banks across the
country to quickly move to higher grounds and not to wait until they are moved
by the raging floods.
He reiterates the Government’s full support to those who are
ready to move to higher grounds.
Owallo at the same time urged Kenyans to help in growing
trees so as to protect the environment.
“We want people to plant more trees even to the household
level and this should not be left for the Government agencies,” Owallo says.
