Call for Wanga to serve two terms as Governor
A section of Homa Bay Residents have
thrown their weight behind their Governor Gladys Wanga to go for her second and
final term during the next polls in 2027.
They say Wanga has been seen climbing
the ladder of power in the politics arena in higher offices over the past years
since she became the second Governor of Homa Bay.
Wanga became the first female Governor in
Nyanza region when she was elected the Governor in the 2022 General elections
succeeding former Governor Cyprian Awiti whose term came to an end in 2022
after serving as Homabay Governor for two terms since the inception of
devolution in 2013.
The Governor whose determination and
commitment to serve the people of Homabay County has seen her becomes the most
influential woman Governor in Kenya.
The residents say Homabay County
become the first county to receive most Government projects in the first term
of the Kenya Kwanza Government under President Dr William Ruto.
They say due to her commitment to serve,
there has been pressure from the locals and top leadership of Homabay County
for the Governor to serve for the next Five years after her first term come to
an end in 2027.
According to political observers from
the county ,they feel Wanga is the most appropriate leader for the people of
Homa Bay after her first term and should be given another five years to serve
as the Governor as she has been negotiating for development projects for the
county from the National Government.
“It is in the Gladys Wanga's
administration where Homabay county became the first county to collect more
revenue among the 47 counties and she is the best performing Governor in Nyanza
region and among the top performers Nationally,’’ says Sam Kogindo, who is one
of the political observers.
The Citizens voice got time to share
with one of the political observers from the county,Sam kogindo who gave out a
number of reasons why he things Governor Wanga should be given another term to
serve .
"I recognize the rising
political stature of Governor Wanga, and it is the wish of many that she
continues to soar even higher. Her leadership has garnered widespread support,
leading to calls for her to deputize the presidential candidate in the 2027
General Election—an idea I fully endorse," Kogindo adds.
"However, the great people of
Homa Bay would be left vulnerable, much like a child weaned prematurely.
Currently, we are in a crucial phase
of exclusive "breastfeeding," and we need this nurturing leadership
to continue for a full 10 years. Any abrupt interruption could lead to serious
setbacks,'
In his remarks, he mentions a number of projects and areas where
the Governor has worked tirelessly since she was elected to improve that
includes the healthcare where he argued that Homabay health indicators have
shown remarkable improvement under the leadership of HE Gladys Wanga, and she
has ambitious plans to sustain this progress as he added that any disruption
could cause a sharp and uncontrollable decline in these achievements.
In Agriculture sector ,he notes that
Wanga has spearheaded a significant revival of agriculture in Homa Bay county,
turning nearly everyone into a farmer with impressive yields as he maintained
that this momentum must be sustained.
Under the umbrella of
Intergovernmental Relations, he says Homa Bay county has benefited immensely
from national government projects, with numerous officials launching
transformative initiatives across various sectors.
"The county is rapidly
industrializing, with ongoing construction projects everywhere, including a
state lounge," he remarks.
In Foreign Relations, he adds that
Under leadership of Wanga, Homa Bay has hosted multiple high-profile envoys,
leading to crucial Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) that bring international
support and investment into the county.
Under Education Programs he said several
impactful programs have been introduced during her tenure, such as Fins to
Swim, Fundi Mangula, Ondoa Kaunda, and school bursaries. These initiatives can
only reach their full potential if she remains in office for a full decade.
