Governor Nyong’o lauds President Kenyatta’s support to national Govt projects in Kisumu
Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o has lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for initiating and supporting a number of National Government projects in Kisumu County.
Nyong’o says there are a number of project by the National Government which is being undertaken by the National Government under President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Addressing the press in Kisumu today where he profusely thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for visiting Kisumu yesterday and launched a dozens of projects within the County, Nyong’o said the good working relationship between his county Government and National Government has yielded fruit hence some Project initiated by the National Government under President Kenyatta.
“Kisumu played host yesterday to the President of the Republic of Kenya and the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces H.E Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta; who was accompanied by the African High commissioner for Infrastructure the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga and a host of cabinet secretaries and high ranking government officials,” Nyong’o says.
The Governor says the President was in Kisumu yesterday to inspect various development projects being implemented by the National Government that include Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium being constructed at Mamboleo Show Ground, Uhuru Business Park and the Kisumu Inland Port.
“We cannot forget the cabinet approvals for the construction of the over 20 Billion Koru-Soin Multipurpose dam and the 63 kilometer Mamboleo –Miwani –Muhoroni road not to mention the upcoming Special Economic Zone in Miwani, Muhoroni Sub County,” Nyong’o adds.
Nyong’o says these projects will not only revolutionize the economic landscape of Kisumu alone but will also be game changers for the whole western sector.
Governor Nyong’o has also thanked the Head of State for adding shs 100million towards the refurbishment of Jomo Kenyatta Sports ground which will now be known as Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Complex.
“We fully acknowledge the goodwill of the president for adding my government 100 million shillings towards Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Complex. With this support, we are sure to have the complex ready for opening by the next Easter holidays,” Nyong’o further says.
The Governor says the region is excited that although the port is due for opening soon, several activities have been going on there, adding that so far MV Uhuru has transported 20 million litres of petroleum to Uganda via Kisumu port.
“We expect more business from the port once the jetty in Jinja is inaugurated by the government of Uganda. We look forward to the opening of Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium by April next year,” he further adds.
He says the good relationship between the two levels of Government has created a conducive environment for planning, both infrastructural and logistical towards hosting of Africities Kisumu 2021.
“This conference will open up latitudes of opportunities for the people of Kisumu and beyond. I want to assure the nation that the planning is progressing well under National Steering Committee commissioned by the President, the governor says.
Governor Nyong’o has also thanked former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for his unflagging commitment to the economic growth of the region,
“He has always gone out of his way to ensure interception and facilitation of our requests to the national government. His contribution in the achievement of these projects shall forever be etched in our history books,” the Governor finally says.
