Nyanza clergy throw their weight behind BBI, promise to support it

A section of Clergy from Nyanza region have fully thrown their weight behind the Building Bridges Initiative promising to support it.

The members of clergy under the banner of the Nyanza Council of Church Leaders say the BBI has assured Kenyans that never again will they witness chaos, negative ethnicity and blood shed after every election circle.

Addressing the press in Kisumu today, the clergy led by the Nyanza Council of Church leaders Apostle Dr. Washington Ogonyo Ngede said they really appreciate President Uhuru Kenyatta and the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for hearing the voice of God through the Church and embracing the handshake which has since introduced peace in the country thus giving room for every Kenyan to go about their businesses across the country without fear.

“This indeed was a great gift to our nation and as church leaders, we want to register our commitment to this course of changing the way we govern ourselves and relate with each other,” they say

The men of cloth have assured the President Kenyatta and the former Prime Minister Raila  Odinga that they have their support as Church leaders from Nyanza region.

“We are praying for you that the dream of a peaceful and a United Kenya be fully realized on the platform of the BBI. We hereby call all Kenyans of goodwill to stand behind the two Political leaders. Our Lord Jesus Christ says that we believers in Him May be one as Him and the Father are one that the world may believe that the Father sent Him according to John 17:21” they say

The Clergy at the same time have disassociated themselves from a section of Clergy from Nyanza who recently paid a visit to the Deputy President Dr. William Ruto at his home in Sugoi, purporting to represent the entire church leadership in Nyanza region.

They state that as clergy from Nyanza region, they are not part of those clergy because as is in the public domain, the reckless statements by the said church leaders are very divisive to Kenyans and very dangerous since it seems to introduce a new phenomenon in political contestation by advising their host, DP Dr. William Ruto to inflict pain and cause slow death on his political opponents.

“This is in reference to the misquoted Bible verse by the said leader {1 Samuel 17:54}.The nation has bled in the past as a result of unresolved murders and political assassinations which unfortunately resulted in massive destruction of properties across the country. It is our prayer and persuasion that we Kenyans will never go back to that kind of politics,” they add.

They further say the utterances from some of the clergy who visited DP Dr.  Ruto are not meant for uniting our nation as is the cry from the heart of every Kenyan that we remain united and co-exist peacefully.

“The Bible says in the Book of Malachi 2:7 that for the Priest’s lips should keep wisdom and they should seek the law of God from his mouth for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts”, they further say in a signed Press statement.

They says members of the clergy are expected to be a uniting factor and ensure that the flock of God are together and not divided, adding that the church leaders have undebatable and non-negotiable role of directing the thinking of the nation both politically and socially, thus creating an enabling environment for development and the free preaching of the word of God.

“It therefore takes us a back as Nyanza Council of Church leaders when we see holy apparels being casually removed and put on anybody including members of our flock who are not church leaders. All the above miss steps attributed to the said clergy are a bad example in the eyes of the nation and particularly to our children and grandchildren who eagerly look to us for good leadership and passing of the button,” the clergy further add

They add that the Nyanza Council of Church leaders embarked on the journey of uniting Kenyans and preaching peace across the country under the Nyanza church and state Cooperation on development, a vehicle that helped to bring all Kenyan Communities together under the leadership of the late retired President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi since June 18, 1995.
