Govt urges youth to fully embrace online jobs
The National Government through the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs has encouraged youths to take up opportunities for wealth creation by working online under the Ajira Digital Program.
Principal Secretary in the Ministry Jerome Ochieng says the government is still enhancing internet connectivity in all the constituencies’ in the country as enabler for easy access.
PS Ochieng says the Constituency Innovation Hubs known as the Ajira Youth Empowerment Centres (YECs) which are being set up countrywide will benefit the youth a lot.
He says the centers are connected to the internet to enable youths earn a decent wage from digital and digitally-enabled jobs to curb the surging unemployment numbers.
“Through the Ajira Digital Program these centers are being operationalized and staffed. The Ajira Digital Portal also gives the youth the opportunity to learn digital skills as well as access digital jobs as a means of creating meaningful employment and improving lives,” Ochieng says
Speaking when he toured some of the centres in Western Kenya, the Principal Secretary says the government too will engage the services of the youths in digitization of government services like the ongoing one in the judiciary.
“With the digitization of the judiciary, the works are massive and guarantees the youth an opportunity to work with the government like the lot which is carrying out the pilot phase in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu,” the PS says.
Mr.Qui Wang from Huawei Technology Kenya who is one of the implementing partners in the connectivity projects follow proceedings during a meetingThere are currently hundreds of Ajira Youth Empowerment Centers accessible by all citizens at no cost where the youths can access the Internet, computers, training and mentorship.
The government is carrying out connectivity through the National Optic Fibre Backbone Infrastructure (NOFBI) in counties and also the Last Mile County Connectivity Project (LMCCP) to connect various government offices.
Qui Wang from Huawei Technology Kenya who is one of the implementing partners in the connectivity projects says they are committed to ensure that there is quality internet connectivity in the country through the NOFBI project.
